Does Notion have a built-in mind map?

No. Notion ships tables, boards, timelines, calendars and galleries, but there is no mind map view and no canvas block. The two usual workarounds are embedding a third-party whiteboard (Miro, Whimsical, Excalidraw) or drawing the map by hand in a separate tool.

Both leave you with two copies of the same structure. The embedded board does not know your pages exist, so renaming a page in Notion silently leaves the board wrong. That drift is the real cost — not the drawing time.

How Dalemi builds the mindmap

Dalemi connects to Notion through the official API and reads the page tree you already have. Each sub-page becomes a node, the parent-child relationship becomes an edge, and the page icon becomes the node icon. There is no import step and no template to install.

Two-way sync, not a snapshot

This is the part that separates a mindmap generator from a mindmap viewer. Edits on the canvas become Notion API writes: creating a node creates a sub-page, dragging a node re-parents the page, deleting a node moves the page to Notion's trash (so it is recoverable).

The other direction works too. A Notion webhook pushes changes to open tabs, so renaming a page in Notion updates the node without a refresh. If the webhook is unavailable the map still reconciles on its own within a couple of minutes.

Four layouts for four kinds of thinking

The same tree reads very differently depending on how it is drawn, so the layout is a one-click switch rather than a rebuild.

Tree — a classic left-to-right mind map. Best for brainstorming and outlines.
Left-right split — branches fan out on both sides of the root, which keeps a wide map compact.
Org chart — top-down, good for teams, ownership and reporting lines.
Radial — concentric rings around the root, useful for spotting how balanced a structure is.

What you can do with the map

Beyond editing, the map is a working surface: collapse a branch to focus, jump to any page in one click, present the map full-screen slide by slide, or export it as PNG, SVG, PDF, Markdown or JSON.

There is also an AI brainstorm panel that suggests child ideas for a selected node. Accepted ideas become real Notion sub-pages.

Limits worth knowing before you start

Dalemi maps the page hierarchy, not the blocks inside a page. Headings and bullet lists within a single page do not become nodes — only sub-pages do. If you want a deeper map, split the content into sub-pages first.

Database rows are pages too, so a database shows up with its entries underneath it. Very large workspaces take longer on the first load because the Notion API is rate limited; afterwards the tree is cached and opens quickly.

FAQ

Is there a native mind map view in Notion?

No. Notion has no mind map view or canvas block. Dalemi adds one by reading your existing page hierarchy through the official Notion API.

Do I have to rebuild my pages to use it?

No. The map is generated from the pages you already have. If your notes are already nested as sub-pages, the map appears as-is on first load.

If I rename a node, does the Notion page change?

Yes. Renaming, adding, moving and deleting nodes are written back to Notion. Deletion moves the page to Notion's trash, so it can be restored.

Does it work with Notion databases?

Database entries are pages, so they appear as child nodes under the database. Property values are not drawn on the map.
