An org chart in Notion usually means a screenshot pasted into a page — accurate on the day it was made and wrong a month later. Dalemi draws the chart from pages that people already maintain, so it updates when the pages do.

Why org charts go stale in Notion

Notion is excellent at holding the facts — a page per team, a page per person, a database of roles. What it cannot do is draw them. So teams export a diagram from a separate tool and embed the image.

From that moment the image and the pages are two independent sources of truth. Someone joins, someone moves team, and only one of the two gets updated. The chart is the one that loses, because nobody owns it.

Model the structure as pages, then switch to the chart

  2. Add a sub-page per team, and a sub-page per person inside the team.

Editing the chart edits Notion

Because the nodes are pages, the chart is editable in the way a picture never is. Renaming a node renames the page. Dropping a node onto another team re-parents the page. Deleting a node moves the page to Notion's trash, which is recoverable rather than destructive.

Changes made in Notion travel the other way too, pushed to open tabs by a webhook, so a chart left open on a wall display stays current.

Sharing the chart with people who do not use Dalemi

A paid plan can create a read-only share link. Anyone with the link sees the current chart in the browser without signing in or installing anything, and the link can be limited by number of views or an expiry date.

For decks and documents, export the chart as PNG, SVG or PDF. SVG keeps the text selectable and scales cleanly to poster size.

Where a page hierarchy is the wrong model

A page tree has exactly one parent per node, so dotted-line reporting, matrix teams and people who belong to two groups cannot be expressed. If your structure genuinely needs multiple parents, a page hierarchy — and therefore this chart — will not capture it.

Photos, titles and contact details live inside each person's page; the chart shows the page name and icon. Set a person's page icon to their avatar and the chart picks it up.

Can Notion make an org chart on its own?

No. Notion has no diagram or chart view. The common workaround is embedding an image from another tool, which then has to be maintained separately.

Do people need to be database rows or sub-pages?

Either works, because a database row is a page. The chart follows the page hierarchy, so entries appear beneath the database they belong to.

Can I show photos in the chart?

Set the page icon of each person's page to their photo. The chart renders page icons on the nodes.

Can someone without a Notion account view the chart?

Yes, through a read-only share link on a paid plan. Viewers do not need a Notion or Dalemi account.

Does it support dotted-line or matrix reporting?
